Gardening for wildlife: NON-LIVING ELEMENTS

Have you ever lifted a piece of dead wood or a rock in the garden and been amazed at all the creatures you find scurrying out of the light…their secret lives suddenly uncovered? The non living things that we place in the garden for their natural beauty create or enhance habitat for a vast number of creatures that call our gardens home. In this fourth in a series of articles on gardening for wildlife, we talk about why it is essential to include both rock (stones and gravel too) and dead wood in a successful biodiversity or wildlife-friendly garden.
