UNICEF Youth Leading in Water Resilience
3. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships The success of the project was underpinned by strong partnerships across education, civil society, and local communities. WESSA collaborated closely with the participating schools and their eco-committees to embed environmental responsibility into their school culture. Below are the partners engaged in Gauteng: Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo WESSA partnered with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo to commemorate National Water Week (18 March), where over 1,000 learners from various schools were engaged in water testing activities at the zoo. This public celebration of water conservation
allowed for broader engagement and reinforced the project’s national relevance. Soweto Rotary Community Corps (SRCC) WESSA partnered with SRCC to host a youth workshop for 200 unemployed young people. Participants learned to conduct water quality tests— including chemical strip testing, Aqua Screen analysis, and Petri-film testing—and were encouraged to serve as ambassadors for water conservation in their communities.
