UNICEF Youth Leading in Water Resilience

4. Impact story Empowering Future Water Stewards: The Impact of the WASH UNICEF Project

Through the WASH project, our children have learned so much about water — where it comes from, how to save and use it wisely, and why it’s so important for life. They now understand the difference between clean and dirty water by looking at colour and smell, and they even learned how to do a basic water quality test. What amazed me most is how they grasped that water is a rare and precious resource, especially in South Africa. They now collect rainwater, reuse water for flushing, and can tell the difference between rain, tap, and river water. It’s been an eye-opening and empowering experience for both the children and us as teachers.” ECD Practitioner, Anna Tsotetsi from Zenzeleni Educate Centre The UNICEF WASH project has had a significant impact on children’s understanding of water conservation and its vital role in daily life. This experience has been enlightening and empowering for both the children and their educators.
